Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds

With a quarter of the season now gone, it's make it or break it time for many fantasy teams. It was a strange week 4, with a lot of stud players disappointing. Whether you are 0-4 or 4-0, waiver claims are still important as ever. A lot of 0-4 and 1-3 teams are surely panicking, I am here to say don't give up. The playoffs are still in reach. You will just need to work on your team harder than before. Make trades and stay active on waivers each and every week. I've had a team start 0-5 and I made it all the way to the championship game. I've also had a 11-2 team where I lost in the first round. You just have to make your way to the playoffs. As always I will be using ESPN ownership percentages. For my weekly reminder, always check to see who your leaguemates have dropped after waivers clear. Goodluck in week 5.
QB:
Jameis Winston (44%)- Trusting in Winston is tough, I get it. He looked awful to start the year. He may very likely be inconstant all year, but he has huge upside each week. In a game where I thought he would struggle, he went on the road and threw for 4 touchdowns and helped lead the team to a road upset against the Rams. Over the last 2 weeks, Winston has thrown for 7 touchdowns. This week he goes against the Saints who have allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to the QB this year. I think he is a nice streamer for this week.
Jimmy Garoppolo (34.3%)- He had a down game against Pittsburgh in week 3 but he will have had 2 weeks to prepare for his upcoming matchup with the Browns. They are middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to opposing QB. I think Jimmy G gets over the 300 yard mark for the first time all year. Dante Pettis is healing up and this team has a ton of playmakers around them. If you are in need of a QB this week, give Jimmy a shot.
Jacoby Brissett (32.3%)- If you streamed him last week, as I did, you were happy. He now has multiple touchdowns in every game this season. I think the trend continues next week when the Colts face the Chiefs. This Chiefs team has given up the 8th most fantasy points to the QB position and Brissett may have T.Y. Hilton back this week. He threw 3 touchdowns without him even playing.
RB:
Jaylen Samuels (19.3%)- It is a light week for RB pickups, with not may options available under 50% owned. Samuels had a decent game on Monday night catching 8 passes along with a rushing touchdown. James Conner got injured again in this game, which could leave the door open to more touches for Jaylen in the near future. It looks like this team may continue to use him in a complementary role to Conner. If you have James Conner on your team, Samuels is a must add.
Ronald Jones (41.4%)- I am guessing Jones should be off of my list come next week. He again looked like the better RB on that team. He now has at least 70 rushing yards in 3 of the 4 games this year. He was also given a season high 19 carries. He won't be someone you want to pick up and start. I see him as a stash as he continues to eat away at the timeshare with Barber. He is shaping up to have a solid sophomore year.
Nyhiem Hines (38%)/ Jordan Wilkins (0.8%)- I am prioritzing Hines over Wilkins this week especially in PPR leagues. Marlon Mack got banged up in last weeks game and there is currently no update on the longevity of his injury. If he were to miss next weeks game, both of these guys will share the workload. I do like Wilkins more in standard scoring, as I see him getting the goal line work. The Chiefs have allowed the 4th most rushing yards on the season.
WR:
Diontae Johnson (6.3%)- I want to start off the WR section by saying I will not be going crazy to try to acquire any of these guys. I wouldn't burn the number 1 waiver or a ton of FAAB. That goes for the RB above as well. My favorite WR pickup for this week is the rookie who has seemed to take over the WR2 role for the Steelers. I didn't expect this to happen until sometime next season but here we are.
Geronimo Allison (27.2%)- He is still the WR3 on this team, but there is a good possibility that Devonte Adams misses this weeks game with turf toe. If so, it would lead to Allison playing a full time roll. They will face the Cowboys this week, who have been pretty good against opposing WR. I still like the volume that Allison could get in relief for Adams. I see him has a WR3/flex play this week if Adams is out.
Dante Pettis (31.3%)- I am still a believer. The team has reported that Pettis has been dealing with multiple injuries since the offseason. Now coming off a bye, he could be back on track health wise. His snap % have gone up each week he has played and I really like what this offense is doing. I am stashing Pettis in hopes he breaks out like we saw at the end of 2018.
Cole Beasley (20.7%)- It seems like no one really wants Beasley this year and I don't know why. He is a great flex play in PPR leagues if you are scrambling for a plug and play. He now has double digit fantasy points in 3 straight games, along with 15 catches over his last 2. He gets peppered with targets each week. Go get him if you are hurting bad with injures for your skill players.
Mohamed Sanu (35.2%)- One of my favorite last round picks looked great last week. Catching 9 passes for 91 yards, but failed to score a touchdown. He has actually played more snaps than Julio Jones this year. I expected him to play more than Ridley but definitely not more than Julio. Just like Beasley he can be an every week plug and play with how high his floor is week in and week out. Hope you guys faded Ridley and got Sanu as I did. There was a huge price difference.
Guys to keep an eye on: Philip Dorsett (36.9%), A.J. Brown (6.1%), Albert Wilson (10.5%)
TE:
Chris Herndon (8.2%)- He will be returning from his suspension next week and should be picked up by every team that needs a TE. I view him as a top 15 TE with nice upside once Sam Darnold returns. Go get him a week earlier than your league mates.
Dawson Knox (3.7%)- He followed up his 67 yard performance with a 58 yard performance in back to back weeks. I think his catches will increase from his season high 3 in one game. Last week the Bill's really couldn't get much going against the Patriots, but that won't be an every week trend. He is a solid TE dart throw.
Jimmy Graham (35.8%)- If Adams is out this week, Graham will also be able to take advantage of the situation and get more work. He caught 6 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night and didn't look too bad. He has been held catchless in weeks 2 and 3 but finally got it going last week. He should start to get a little more involved as the season progresses.
Notable Add: Tyler Eifert (17.8%)- Plays against the Cardinals.
DEF:
Eagles (42.2%)
Texans (34.5%)
Panthers (30.2%)
49ers (26.9%)
