Week 3 Waiver Wire Adds

09/17/2019

Welcome back to another weekly waiver wire column. There were a ton of injuries that happened in week 2, that you may now be looking to fill. With still a good amount of solid options available, don't panic just yet. It is only week 3 and we have a long season ahead of us. Below I will outline my favorite waiver adds by position. They will also be sorted by priority. As always, I will be using ESPN ownership with each player. Goodluck heading into week 3!

QB:

Josh Allen (30%)- He has a great floor, which leaves him being one of the more consistent QB's for fantasy purposes. I do think there is even room for him to have better games. He came on the scene last year with his amazing rushing ability, but it hasn't translated so far this season. He now has a rushing touchdown in back to back games while throwing for at least 250 yards. I like his rushing stats to increase at some point this year. He gets the Bengals next, a middling pass defense.

Jimmy Garoppolo (21.3%)- If you are looking for a streamable QB this week I like Jimmy G's matchup. The Steelers have allowed the 5th most fantasy points to opposing QB this year. They did just make a trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick, but the rest of the secondary is still suspect. Last week Jimmy threw for almost 300 yards and had 3 touchdowns. I like him to get around 300 yards again with multiple scores.

Superflex league adds: Mason Rudolph (20.3%), Daniel Jones (19.8%), Teddy Bridgewater (20.4%), Kyle Allen (0.1%)

RB:

Raheem Mostert (11.0%)- If you are in need of RB help, Mostert should be a great add. He led the 49ers with 149 total yards with a touchdown. He led all RB in targets and carries last week. He also had 13 more snaps than Matt Breida. Although I do think Breida is the better back, it seems like the 49ers like Mostert in the passing game, giving him more value.

Carlos Hyde (44.9%)- I got a really good look at Hyde on Sunday as I attended the Texans game. It seemed like he constantly was given the ball. I had predicted Duke Johnson leading this backfield, but that is not the case. Hyde was given 20 rushes for 90 yards. I do think he has increased value in standard leagues, as he was given 0 targets. In what should be a high powered offense, Hyde could be given some opportunities to fall into the endzone. Hyde outsnapped Duke 40 to 26.

Frank Gore (16.4%)- The Bills have leaned heavily on Gore, despite rookie Devin Singletary looking electric. Gore is as reliable as they come. He was given 19 carries in a game where Singletary went down. His injury is considered minor, but if he does miss time, Gore is a free RB who will get around 15-20 touches.

Jaylen Samuels (25.5%)- James Conner injured his knee on Sunday, potentially leaving the door open for Samuels to take the starting gig. I like him to take on a similar workload as Conner if he is to miss time. This offense as a whole is going to be downgraded with Big Ben out for the year. Whenever you can add a potential starting RB on waivers, do it.

Darwin Thompson (18.7%)- Both LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams got banged up last week, which could leave the door open for Thompson to log more playing time. It will take one of the two to miss a game for that to happen. Thompson was a favorite to possibly take over Williams before McCoy came into the picture. It is a situation to monitor, but keep your eyes on Darwin.

Alexander Maddison (13.2%)- This is for Dalvin Cook owners. He is a must add if I had Cook. WE have seen how successful this team has been running the ball and if anything happens to Cook, Mattison could be potentially a top 10-15 back. Go get your handcuff.

WR:

Terry McLaurin (41%)- He was one of the top waiver adds last week, and should be once again in week 3. Hopefully he won't be on this column come next week. McLaurin became the first rookie since Calvin Johnson to have at least 60 yards and a touchdown in his first two games. That is pretty good company. He is also basically on the field for almost every play, playing 90% of snaps. He also has at least 7 targets the past two weeks. I see him as a must add if he is still available.

Demarcus Robinson (1.1%)/Mecole Hardman (38.3%)- Both should be added but I think I am going to give Robinson the slight advantage here. He played in 91% of snaps to Hardman's 74%. They both had 6 targets, but I am sure this is going to be a back and forth thing for these two. With both of them sort of sharing the WR2 role for this offense, they are worth an add.

D.J. Chark (22.2%)- He was all over the field on Sunday, catching 7 of his 9 targets. He also scored at the end of the 4th quarter. He looks to have taken over the WR1 role for the Jags and should be added in every format. He may have a tough going next week against the Titans so he is a stash for me right now. He only was off of the field for 10 snaps last week.

Nelson Agholor (4.3%)- Both DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery got banged up last week and both may miss some games. Agholor took over the WR1 role and managed 8 catches for 107 yards and a score. He will be used as a focal point in this offense if these guys are to miss games. It already looks like Jackson will be out at least 2 weeks. To me he will be a short term asset until both Jackson and Jeffery return.

Deeboo Samuels (12.8%)- Even though the rookie was 4th in snap count among the WR group, he still lead the team in targets and receiving yards. I am still a firm Dante Pettis believer and with his increase in snaps, Deeboo could take a hit. Until then, he is one of the more promising WR on a team who has put up at least 30 points in each of the first 2 weeks.

TE:

Jason Witten (18.6%)- He has scored in back to back games and I wouldn't be surprised if that trend continues in week 3. The Cowboys will face the Dolphins who have given up the second most fantasy points to opposing TE. He is probably the best streaming TE you will be able to find.

Noah Fant (11.2%)- Honestly it looks like a rough week for streaming a TE and there aren't many viable options out there. Fant played in 66% of snaps so we at least know he is going to be the starting TE there. He faces the Packers this week, which is going to be a tough matchup. You are throwing a dart and hoping for a score by starting Fant.

DEF:

Dallas Cowboys (37.5%)

San Francisco 49ers (14.2%)

Green Bay Packers (7.1%)
