Top Handcuffs

08/18/2019

It is generally important to roster the RB who is behind one of your studs, but in some cases, one guy may not have the job to himself. Some teams should resort to a runningback by committee type of system. Those are never fun for fantasy purposes, so it wouldn't be wise to hold onto those types of players. On the other hand, there are guys who the coaching staff trusts to hand over the reins to the backup. I am going to highlight my favorite RB handcuffs who could add value to your team if a stud RB were to get injured.

  • Alexander Madison (Dalvin Cook)
  • Giovanni Bernard (Joe Mixon)
  • Royce Freeman (Philip Lindsay): Could see him getting more touches later in season
  • C.J. Anderson (Kerryon Johnson)
  • Ryquell Armstead (Leonard Fournette)
  • Carlos Hyde (Damien Williams)
  • Justin Jackson (Melvin Gordon)- I believe he will be the lead back if Melvin is out rather than Ekeler and he goes later in drafts.
  • Jalen Richard (Josh Jacobs)
  • Dion Lewis (Derrick Henry)
  • Chace Edmounds (David Johnson)
  • Tony Pollard (Ezekiel Elliot)
  • Jamaal Williams (Aaron Jones)
  • Duke Johnson (Lamar Miller)

These players are in no particular order. If you end up drafting one of the players in parenthesis, I would strongly recommend taking their backup for insurance. I think in most other backfields, the team will resort to a RBBC approach if the starter goes down. While others are already in a RRBC. I think the guys listed above will have great value if given the opportunity.
