Hits and Misses from Week 5

10/10/2018

We had yet another high scoring week in most fantasy leagues. A quick shoutout to Drew Brees for becoming the all-time leader in passing yards this Monday. There were some notable injuries this past week. Jay Ajayi is out for the year with a torn ACL. Matt Breida has a mid/high ankle sprain and could miss multiple games. Leonard Fournette is once again out and T.J. Yeldon will continue to carry the load. Both Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp suffered concussions and are questionable to play this week.

This article is a recap of how my Studs and Duds from the previous week had turned out. Last week I was right on 7 of my 12 picks. Spoiler alert, I can't pick a stud TE to save my life. Lets dive into Week 5's Hits and Misses.

Hits:

RB: Matt Breida*(Stud)- He got injured in the first quarter and wouldn't normally qualify for the hits, but his first quarter was something to talk about. Before getting injured, Breida had 8 carries for 56 yards and a receiving TD. If he had finished out the game it could have resulted in huge numbers at the end of the day. I am hoping his injury isn't serious

RB: T.J. Yeldon (Stud)- Yeldon had an amazing week and finished as the RB5. He had 10 carries for 53 yards, while adding 8 catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. His usage in the passing game propelled him to score 26.2 PPR points. He will continue to get this type of work while Fournette is out.

RB: Lamar Miller (Dud)- He was active in this game but did not record a single snap. They should have just not dressed him on Sunday. For those who started him because he was listed as active, you were very disappointed. In his absence, Alfred Blue ran the ball 20 times for 46 yards. I would have expected similar numbers from Miller if he was in the game.

RB: Jay Ajayi (Dud)- He did get injured in this game and was not able to finish it. He ended up tearing his ACL and will miss the remainder of the year. Before the injury, he ran the ball 8 times for only 29 yards. He also fumbled in this game as well. If you started him you got a disappointing 2.4 points in this game. This may be Ajayi's last year with the Eagles.

WR: Corey Davis (Dud)- As expected he didn't do much with his targets this week. He caught 4 of his 6 targets for only 49 yards. It didn't seem that the Titans could really get anything going against the Bills. Davis could be in for another rough couple of week as he plays the Ravens and then the Chargers. He has a bye after that. He should get back on track after his bye.

WR: Larry Fitzgerald (Dud)- After last weeks performance, you are probably seeing Fitzgerald being dropped in a few leagues. I get it. He is available in 2 of mine and I don't think I am going to get him. He had another disappointing week against the 49ers. He was held to just 2 catches for 35 yards. He has failed to catch over 3 passes since week one. I would be keeping Fitz out of my lineup until something turns around. This could be his final year.

TE: Kyle Rudolph (Dud)- I finally hit on a TE. Rudolph was not a feature of this offense against the Eagles. He was held to 5 catches for 41 yards. He got the volume but didn't do much with it. He was drafted as a top 5 guy, who would be catching a ton of TD's from Cousins. It just hasn't panned out that way yet. Better days are ahead for Rudolph.

Misses:

QB: Matthew Stafford (Stud)- He should have had a better day. He finished the game with 183 yards and two touchdowns. He had a huge 40 plus yard TD to Golladay called back and could have had another deep touchdown, but Golladay was stopped a few yards short. They also ran the ball in with Blount for two touchdowns. Stafford should have had a much bigger game in this one. The Lions got their second win of the season going up against the Packers.

QB: Baker Mayfield (Dud)- He was the only dud that I missed on this week and it still feels off that I am putting him as a miss. He only threw for one TD and had one interception, but he threw for 342 yards. This performance was good enough to make him a top 15 QB this week. He scored more points than Mahomes, Stafford, Ryan, and Goff. Look for Mayfield to possibly breakout in the coming weeks.

WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster (Stud)- He scored a TD in this game, but only caught 4 total passes. He ended his day with 34 yards and a TD to give him just 13.4 points. It is not a terrible day, but for a guy who I had ranked as the WR9, he disappointed. It was the Antonio Brown show in this game, as JuJu only received 4 targets. He will bounce back in the coming weeks.

WR: Tyler Boyd (Stud)- He got a good amount of targets in this game, but couldn't perform with his work. He caught 4 of those passes for only 44 yards. The only pass catcher that had a good day was A.J. Green. The guy who I thought would get locked up. Boyd still commands a high number of targets and should still be a huge factor in this offense.

TE- Vance McDonald (Stud)- For a while it seemed that McDonald wasn't even on the field. He only caught one pass for 6 yards. It was an awful day for the Steelers TE. His poor day may have been for the fact that Antonio Brown saw 13 of Big Bens's passes. There just wasn't enough passes to go around in this game. It was a disappointing effort for a guy who had at least 4 catches in the last two games.

I again went 7 for 12 in my hits this week. That makes 3 in a row. I will have my weekly Studs and Duds article out later this week. I am hoping for an improvement this week.
