Buy Low/Sell High

09/21/2018

Managing your roster throughout the season is crucial to success in fantasy football. Whether it is trades or waiver pickups, you should always be trying to upgrade your team. I am going to go through a few players that I would personally look to sell, and some I would like to buy. Early in the season tons of owners panic and overreact to the first two week. That is something you could use to your advantage. Whether it is highly drafted players that have under performed, or some bench players that are shinning, its always smart to play the market. Below I will posted several players to work into trades with due to their current value. I personally attack trades by first contacting the team and seeing what they would want for a player that you are interested in. Trades are more likely to get done this way, rather then sending a blind trade offer.

Sell:

DeSean Jackson (WR)- I have seen outrageous trades involving this guy recently. One that stood out to me the most was Jackson for Le'Veon Bell and Kelvin Benjamin. I would do that in a heartbeat. Now I don't think that kind of trade is likely, but if you can get a better long term value for Jackson, do it. Jackson was most likely drafted as a bench spot so it could help improve your lineup in areas where you are lacking. All of his points have came from the deep ball. I don't see that happening all season long. Especially if Winston returns sometime in the season. He has 9 total catches this season. If you can get a solid RB or a WR who averages about 9 targets a game, go for it.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB)- Chances are if you own Fitzpatrick, you have another QB on your roster. He mainly went undrafted so you should have a fall back QB that you can start. Tons of people are going to be buying into to this hot start and believe me, I get it. He's been on fire through the first 2 weeks and that should continue in week 3. I would find what teams are needing a QB and see what they would give for Fitz. It is hard for me to see him consistently doing this all year long, but hey I could be wrong. I just see that there is value to trading Fitz sooner, rather than later.

Austin Ekeler (RB)- This is strictly for the owners who own Ekeler but do not own Melvin Gordon. I would contact the Gordon owner and see what you could get for Ekeler. It's possible to get a starting RB or a solid WR2. He will be more valuable to the Gordon owner , so I would personally see what you would be able to get for him. Now holding onto Ekeler could turn into a top 5 RB if anything where to happen to Gordon. I just don't like playing by waiting on or fearing an injury on a player. He does have standalone value, but you may be able to get an every week starter, vs a solid flex option.

Philip Lindsay (RB)- Now I know that he has been the best back for the Broncos so far this season, but don't forget that this is a full blown committee. Most people are looking just at Lindsay's stat line and not that he is sharing carries with Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker. With Lindsay, I would add another player along with him to get a solid starter for your roster. I still believe in Royce Freeman to have a solid year during this season but it could take a few more weeks. Lindsay is a hot name right now and try to see if you can take advantage of that.

Jay Ajayi (RB)- Injuries could be a problem for Ajayi all season long. He is currently not playing this week, so Corey Coleman has the job all to himself this week. If some people are looking at his TD total through 2 weeks they could get a little more interested in Ajayi. He is currently the RB13 in points this season. This is also a committee that could be worse for Ajayi, if Coleman has a big game week 3. I stayed away from him during the drafts and if you have him I would try to trade him for a safer player.

Isaiah Crowell (RB)- Another timeshare that I want to get out of. Crowell has had two huge games this season while splitting carries with Bilal Powell. After week three's 2 TD performance, it is even more likely you would be able to trade him. He has 4 TD's so far this season and people would see that and think he is the real deal. I personally have Crowell in a ton of leagues and I am actively looking to trade him for a solid RB. I tend to stay away from timeshares the best I can.

Larry Fitzgerald (WR)- It may be hard to get some good value out of him with how this team has been playing. You would be hoping that his name carries a ton of weight. This team just looks bad. If the Cardinals don't change to Rosen soon, it could be a long year for Fitzgerald. For years he has been a PPR machine, but this may be the worst offense all year. I would keep him unless you can get a solid trade for him.

Buys:

David Johnson (RB): I ended the sells with a Cardinal and I'll start my buys with a Cardinal. Weird right? I just made the argument to get rid of Larry Fitz because of this bad offense and now I'm telling you to buy another guy in this offense. Hear me out. DJ was drafted as a top 3 pick in almost every draft this year. He was the highest scoring RB in 2016. This year has been a big disappointment for anyone who has drafted him. Me included. His value is getting even lower and I think they eventually will start throwing him the ball more. I am really hoping that they choose to start Rosen soon, which they will have to do at some point. If you can get a deal for DJ, buy away.

Jordan Howard (RB): He has been fairly quiet this season and I know some owners are a little disappointed. I am actively trying to get a deal done before this Sunday. He has been decent in the ground game but hasn't scored a TD. The biggest surprise I have noticed is his work in the pass game. He had a total of 23 catches last season and through 2 weeks he already has 8. This is an offense who could struggle to throw the ball and rely on their run game and defense. If someone is panicking on him, jump on it while you can.

Kenny Stills (WR)- His price could actually be fairly cheap now because of a quite week 2. Week one he exploded for 106 yards and 2 TD's. His usage is bound to go up as the season progresses and he remains the number one option for the Dolphins. I wrote about him in my 32 players I love this year and there is a ton of info on why you should buy into this guy. If you can get a number one option on a team for pretty cheap, it could pay out big time by season end.

Jarvis Landry (WR)- Here is another guy I have been trying to get the past two weeks. His price is pretty high, but I think its worth it. He has had two games this season with at least 7 catches and  100 yards. He should continue that trend all year. I think Tyrod Taylor's job has been lost and Baker Mayfield will be stepping in. Once Mayfield entered the game it was a whole other Browns team. At the start of the game Taylor was 0-6 throwing the ball. They looked fired up and excited to see the number one overall pick come into the game. Once he did, Landry's yards starting piling up. This offense will be better off with Baker in at QB and will help Landry maintain his WR1 status.

Sony Michel (RB)- Go check out my studs & dubs column for some good stats about Michel for this week. I have been able to get him in a few leagues this week and I am excited. A first round pick for the patriots usually holds alot of weight. They hardly ever use that pick on a skill position. To me, that shows that they will plan to use him. He looked pretty decent up against the Jaguars defense in his first NFL game. He created some extra yards after contact and this week he could be able to show off those skills even more. We have seen a Patriots RB be a top option in past years, and I think Michel has the best chance to continue that trend.

George Kittle (TE)- Hopefully a bad week 2 will help lower his value for some people. I have Kittle as a top 5 TE for the rest of the year. This team seems to want him to be a focal point in their offense. He has the 6th highest targets among TE through the first two weeks. I have wrote about this guy a bunch as well he is a star in the making. If you are hurting at TE, go get this guy if you can.

A few extra guys that I would buy into: Kenny Golladay, Zach Ertz, Emmanuel Sanders, Aaron Jones, Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppollo
